We have recently been advised that a number of faculty and staff are not receiving email updates sent out by executive leadership, as well as various areas across campus. We have researched this issue and have confirmed that it is an issue with individuals' email settings. In short, the problem stems from the way recipients have their inboxes set up.
Most people accept the default inbox setting, which means they have two tabs - Primary and Promotions. When this setting is in place, the Google algorithm takes over and determines if an incoming email is 'promotional' and if so, it will move it into the promotions tab.
One of the remedies is to move GCC emails to your Primary tab so Google learns to prioritize them. To do this, you will need to select and drag the email to the Primary tab. When Google asks if you want to move all future GCC emails to the Primary tab, you should click Yes. Another option is to turn off the promotions tab in your inbox settings.
