Proud Gaucho Alumni, Danielle Davis

“Just before my grandmother passed away, she made me promise that I would get my General Education Development (GED) diploma.” Stated Danielle Davis. After that, her future path was set, and she was determined to get an education. Her first step was to enroll at GCC, where she started with basic math. Danielle admits that she had struggled with math in high school, however, at GCC, everything clicked, and she earned an A in the class. “That gave me the confidence I needed to continue with my GED and set me on my academic path.” Danielle proudly stated.

In 2014, Danielle returned to GCC, however, this time as a college student pursuing a degree. She chose to earn an Associate of Science in Early Childhood Education. It was not an easy path, nor was it fast, however, Danielle stuck with her goal, and in keeping with her promise to her grandmother, she graduated in 2023.

Throughout those nine years, Danielle learned from her instructors, but on a deeper level, it is when she discovered her confidence, passion, and her purpose. Perhaps most importantly was the support, guidance and encouragement she received from faculty across campus, especially in Early Childhood Education. Danielle stated, “Throughout my time at GCC, Judy Basham was a mentor and inspiration to me. I looked up to her and she is a model for how I want to succeed in life. Her guidance shaped the way I approach childhood education, and I carry the lessons I learned from her into my work every day.”

In talking to Danielle about her experience as a Gaucho, she shared her positive experience. “The faculty went above and beyond in every way. They were welcoming, supportive, and knowledgeable. They aren’t just educators—they are advocates for the students, always doing what was best for us. Whether it was taking the time to provide extra help, offering real-world insights, or just encouraging me to keep going, they made me feel like I belonged.”

When asked if she has any advice for anyone considering going to college, whether right out of high school, or as an adult learner, Danielle had this to say, “To anyone thinking about starting their academic journey, it’s never too late, and every step forward counts.
