Judy Basham, GCC Residential Faculty in Child and Family Studies, presented several sessions at the Family Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), State Leadership Conference. She spoke on the topic of ‘Taking Initiative in Your Personal and Professional Life.’

“I’m excited that the students were actively engaged throughout both sessions, with lively, thoughtful, enthusiastic discussions.” Reported Judy.

During her sessions, July highlighted the experience of Idalia Perez, a former GCC student who is now pursuing her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. “I used her story as an example of how taking initiative and making small, consistent steps can lead to great success.” Stated Judy, and added, “It was great to see how Idalia’s journey truly inspired the students and helped them see what’s possible through our program.”

Perhaps the best part is the fact that Judy gathered a list of students who expressed a strong interest in pursuing their Early Childhood Education degree and would like to begin advisement for the upcoming school year. In summing up, Judy stated, “Students left the sessions feeling motivated, excited to become Gauchos, and eager to learn more about our Child and Family Studies program.

The FCCLA Fall Leadership Conference took place earlier in the month and was held at the Phoenix Convention Center. Judy has a rich history with the organization, having served as an advisor and Arizona State Chapter President. She is currently a Post Secondary Board Member.
